67th Grammys: Nigeria top singers gets nominations

Top Nigerian singers got nomination from the Recording Academy for the  67th Grammys.

Spark News Daily reports that the Best African Music Performance category is entirely occupied by Nigerians, except American artist Chris Brown, who made the cut with a song featuring two Nigerians, Davido and Lojay.

The organisers announced the nominations on Friday, November 8.

The nominees for the Best African Music Performance category are ‘Tomorrow’ by Yemi Alade, ‘MMS’ by Asake featuring Wizkid, ‘Sensational’ by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, ‘Higher’ by Burna Boy, and ‘Love Me JeJe’ by Tems.

Recall that ‘Water’ by South African singer, Tyla, won the maiden award for the Best African Music Performance recognition at the 66th Grammys.

Meanwhile, the duo of Nigerian singers Rema and Tems were nominated in the Best Global Music Album category.

Tems’ debut album ‘Born In The Wild’ and Rema’s sophomore album, ‘HEIS’ were nominated in the category.

They will compete against Matt B and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s ‘Alkebulan II’, Ciro Hurtado’s ‘Paisajes’, and Antonio Rey’s ‘Historias De Un Flamenco’.

Tems also bagged a nomination in the Best R&B Song category as her song ‘Burning’ made the cut.

Only women were nominated in the Best R&B Song category at this year’s Grammys.

Tems will face stiff competition from ‘After Hours’ by Kehlani, Coco Jones’ ‘Here We Go (Uh Oh)’, Muni Long’s ‘Ruined Me’, and ‘Saturn’ by SZA.
