Speaking at a one-day public hearing on the amendment of ITF Act organised by the House Representatives, the Director-General of the agency, Dr Afiz Ogun, said those opposing the bill are not familiar with the agency’s Act.
In a chat with journalists on Wednesday, Dr Ogun said President Tinubu has charged the agency to address the embarrassing perception that there are no jobs in Nigeria.
He argued that, contrary to the common notion that there are no jobs in Nigeria, there are jobs in the country. But there are no qualified skilled persons to take up the jobs and often the available jobs are seen as degrading by some skilled Nigerians.
“For the avoidance of doubt, there are jobs in Nigeria. If there is no work in Nigeria, Ghanaians will come here, Lebanese will come here, Togolese will come here, they take up the job we abandoned, become millionaires and go back to their country to enjoy their millions, yet we say there is no job.
The DG said the agency is committed to ending the poaching of jobs meant for Nigerians by foreigners.
Spark News Daily reports that the House of Representatives is seeking to amend ITF enabling Act to address concerns of overlapping functions, which negatively impacts productivity amongst agencies.
