APRI Applauds DRTS FCT for Adopting E-enforcement in Road Traffic Violations
The Accident Prevention and Rescue Initiative (APRI), a road safety focused Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) has commended the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), for adopting e-ticketing enforcement for all traffic offences in the nation’s capital.
The group in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Amb. Prince Fidelis Nnadi, which was made available to journalists in Abuja, stressed the ingenuity and dexterity of the Director, DRTS FCT, Dr. Abdul-Lateef Bello.
Recall that on17th of February, 2025, the FCTA DRTS announced the commencement of e-ticketing enforcement for all traffic offences.
Many residents viewed the initiative as a new and unprecedented technology- driven road traffic enforcement scheme.
It is also noteworthy that the new system will automatically eliminate physical interface between enforcement officers and motorists and ensure efficiency in tracking and penalising road traffic violators
According to the statement, Amb. Nnadi noted that, “we are hopeful that the unfortunate court judgement, which barred the FCT DRTS from stopping and impounding offending vehicles on Abuja roads, will soon be overturned by the Appeal Court.
“The deployment of technological devices in road traffic enforcement in FCT has legal backing, and we are optimistic that it will ensure quick and efficient management of road traffic services in the nation’s capital.
“This new system which will automatically reduce physical interface between enforcement officers and motorists will be very efficient at tracking and penalising road traffic offences and such should be replicated in other States in order to minimise road crashes.
Indeed, these technological devices that will record traffic infraction and immediately or within few minutes issue electronic tickets to the offenders are highly applauded. It is a game changer in road traffic management in Nigeria
“We commend Dr. Abdul-Lateef Bello for this and many giant strides being achieved in FCT Road Traffic Management while appreciating the FCT Minister, Barr Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, for his unwavering support and commitment towards supporting efforts in the reduction of road crashes in the Federal Capital Territory.
“It is obvious that the FCT Transportation Secretariat’s extant laws allow DRTS FCT to use devices in maintaining safety on the roads across the Capital Territory, and so this new innovation leaves no room for litigation.
Amb. Nnadi concluded by calling on residents and FCT motoring public to support the e-ticketing enforcement in the interest of road safety on FCT roads.
