The House of Representatives joins the nation in solemnly commemorating this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day, a profound occasion to honour the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty, peace, and freedom continues to inspire us all.
As a parliament, we remain deeply appreciative of the relentless efforts of our military personnel in combating the multifaceted security challenges threatening our nation. Their bravery on the frontlines fortifies our collective resolve and is vital to ensuring the peace and stability we strive for.
In his message marking this year’s celebration, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, stated that Nigerians are eternally grateful to members of the Armed Forces who paid the supreme price in the bid to protect their countrymen. He also assured that the 10th House will remain committed to prioritising security and supporting safety agencies, with the protection and welfare of the citizenry being government’s foremost responsibility.
Speaker Abbas reiterated that there cannot be economic growth and stability without the safety of lives and investments, and stressed that security is a collective responsibility of all citizens and not government agencies alone. He called for greater support and cooperation for the Armed Forces in their tireless pursuit to ensure the protection of lives and property across the nation.
“As we reflect on the sacrifices made by our gallant men and women in uniform, we also remember the families they left behind, whose lives have been irrevocably impacted by their loss. The 10th House of Representatives reaffirms its commitment to supporting policies and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the families of fallen heroes, as well as enhancing the living conditions of veterans and serving personnel.
“May the sacrifices of our fallen heroes never be in vain, and may their legacy continue to inspire us all to work towards building a nation worthy of their ultimate sacrifice”.
