Arne Slot speaks on Mo Salah’s Liverpool future after his brace against Newcastle

Arne Slot expects Mo Salah to continue scoring for Liverpool for a ‘long time’, despite the Egyptian’s contract stand-off.

Salah was instrumental in his side’s comeback against Newcastle, providing an assist for Curtis Jones and scoring two excellent goals in a thrilling 3-3 draw at St James’ Park.

The Premier League’s top scorer — who took his tally to 13, overtaking Erling Haaland — revealed last week he has yet to receive a contract offer from Liverpool, despite his deal expiring next summer.

But Slot said: ‘Every time we need him he scores an important goal. We are hoping and expecting that he can continue this for a long time, Daily Mail reports.

‘He is in a very good place, in a very good team that provides him with opportunities. And what makes him even more special is in the first hour he was not playing his best game and then he comes up with an assist, two goals, a shot against the bar. Special player and an outstanding performance.’

Salah gave a bombshell interview to a group of reporters after Liverpool beat Southampton at St Mary’s last week where he revealed he was ‘disappointed’ at the lack of progress in negotiations over a new deal and expressed that he was ‘more out than in’ at Anfield.

‘We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club,’ Salah said. ‘I’m probably more out than in.’

He also spoke out about his contract situation in the wake of Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday, as he stated he is making the most of his ‘home’ at Anfield.

‘It’s very special,’ said the 32-year-old. ‘I said before, I don’t take it for granted. I’m enjoying every minute here. It feels like home. So, yeah, it’s a special feeling. It always is to score at Anfield and win games.
