Arsenal 5-0 Crystal Palace: Rio Ferdinand hails unsung hero for Arsenal set-piece

Rio Ferdinand has lumped praise on an unsung hero for Arsenal's brilliance at set-pieces, after Mikel Arteta's side took an early 2-0 lead against Crystal Palace from two corners.

According to MailOnline, Declan Rice swung in the first, with Gabriel rising high above Eagles’ defender Chris Richards to put the hosts 1-0 up after just 11 minutes.

But the Brazilian wasn’t finished there, with the 26-year-old breaking free to the back post to nod a corner from Bukayo Saka down towards the centre of the goal. Unfortunately for Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson, the header struck him on the back before bouncing into the back of the net and would go down as an own-goal.

While Henderson appealed to officials that he had been fouled inside the six-yard box, Gabriel and his team-mates wheeled away in elation, with referee Paul Tierney awarding the goal.

While it was a fast start from Arsenal and some excellent play from Gabriel, Ferdinand lauded the Gunner’s set-piece coach Nicolas Jover, who was seen cutting an animated figure on the edge of the penalty area alongisde Arteta throughout the game.
