FG reiterates commitment to mineral devt as MSMD holds mining week

The Ministry of Solid Mineral Development has emphasized the Federal Government's commitment towards creating a vast mineral wealth that will boost the economy growth of the country.

Speaking during the opening day of the Mining week in Abuja on Monday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Mary A. Ogbe, disclosed that a 7-point agenda has been designed and structured for the transformation of the sector into an operational virtue.

Dr. Ogbe said the agenda will address special areas of data gathering, mines, surveillance, community engagement, and environmental economic landscape.

She said the ministry will propose a thorough review of the 2007 Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act to bring the legislative framework in line with international best practices.

“Central to this agenda, is the insistence on value addition, with a
sustainability, and robust enforcement mechanisms that will strengthen our sector’s protocols in the
transformative journey of Nigeria’s mining industry”.

The Permanent Secretary, however, called on stakeholders in the sector to collaborate with the federal government in unlocking the full potential of Nigeria’s mining sector as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economy.

Spark News Daily reports that the Executive Secretary of Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Aisha Remi spoke on the topic, “Boosting Mineral Exploration in Nigeria: Strategies to Attract and Secure Domestic and International Investment.

While, Dr. Esther Udo,
the Director, Investments Promotion and Mineral Trade (IPMT), harped on, “The Ministry of Solid Minerals Development’s Strategies for Collaborating with Mineral Title Holders to Promote their Mineral Assets”.

The 3-day event is a pre-conference business meeting/business networking day.
