FG secures release of six  women detained in Cape Verde

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of Nigerian citizens abroad.

Tuggar made the statement on Thursday in Abuja, following the release of six Nigerian women who had been detained in Cape Verde over false trafficking allegations.

In a statement issued by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, it was revealed that the women, who had traveled to Cape Verde for a holiday, were freed after diplomatic intervention by the ministry through Nigeria’s Mission in Guinea Bissau.

“We wish to happily announce that the Nigerian ladies who were detained in Cape Verde have all been released and have now left the country,” Tuggar stated.

He emphasised that the ministry acted promptly to engage Cape Verdean authorities via diplomatic channels, ensuring the women’s swift release once it was clear the allegations were unfounded.
