Pep Guardiola’s side defeated Thomas Tuchel’s Bundesliga leaders 4-1 on aggregate to set up a semi-final date with Real Madrid, who knocked them out of the competition in remarkable fashion last season.
City have been fancied by the bookmakers for much of the season to lift the trophy for the first time in their history, though they are now strongly favoured to triumph in Istanbul on June 10.
Speaking on BT Sport after watching City secure a 1-1 draw in the Allianz Arena that ensured them a comfortable path to the next stage, the two pundits agreed that the trophy had Guardiola’s side’s name on it.
‘Man City,’ Lescott responded to Jake Humphrey’s question. ‘I think they’re defensively stronger than in previous years, so I will go Man City.’
Ferdinand echoed his sentiment, responding: ‘Reluctantly, I will say Man City. But I have said it for the last three years, I will continue in that vain.’
‘I think they’re going to get it right,’ he added. ‘Haaland’s impact [will be the difference].’
