Seek justice with Senate Committee on Public Petitions – Sen Imasuen tells Nigerians
The Chairman, Senate Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Neda Imasuen has called on all and sundry Nigerians to leverage on the Committee to get justice whenever injustice is being meted on an individual or organisation.
Senator Imasuen also noted specifically that approaching the Committee is free and doesn’t necessarily require getting the service of a legal practitioner.
Speaking with Journalists in his office on Tuesday at the National Assembly complex, the lawmaker emphasized that the Committee serves as an alternative dispute resolution with the power to ensure compliance to its resolutions by the parties involved.
While calling on the general public to take advantage of the Committee for justice, Senator Imasuen, representing Edo South senatorial district vowed to push for justice for all using the instrumentality of the Committee.
When asked how much awareness has the Committee created amid Nigerians resoughting to non-state actors for justice, he said; “That’s why we are counting on the media to do so. It appears that this Committee is not well known to the community, to our nation.
“The people are not aware of the services we render to the ordinary man or woman, because it’s a Committee that you don’t pay anything to come to, you don’t need a lawyer to represent you. If you have a lawyer, that’s fine, but you really don’t need a lawyer to represent you. And you don’t spend money to get justice for your petition”.
Continuing, the Benin-born lawmaker said, “Let me use this opportunity to let Nigerians know and the world at large that we are here to serve them and we are serving them”.
