Sudan war: About 7000 Africans including Nigerians stranded at Egyptian border

No fewer than 7,000 nationals, including Nigerians fleeing from the fight in Sudan are stranded at Egyptian border, The Nation has learnt.

According to Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, about 7000 national were not allowed into Egypt since arriving at the border on Thursday evening.

Dabiri-Erewa called on those concerned with passages and movement of persons and services along contiguous borders of Sudan to create a humane condition for them to have unfettered access to their various destinations.

In a statement signed by Gabriel Odu, Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, NIDCOM, Dabiri-Erewa explained the Nigerian mission in Egypt has been working tirelessly on this as the Egyptian authorities are insisting on visas by fellow Africans to transit back to their countries.

She also appealed to the Egyptian authorities to allow the already traumatised travelers to transit to their final destinations in various countries in Africa.
