The examination which was conducted on Thursday and Friday in other states of the Federation, had teachers in FCT sit for theirs today being 18th May 2024, at the Sascon Int’l School, Maitama Abuja.
Briefing journalists, the Director of Certification and Licensing, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Dr Jesinta Ngozi Ezahope, disclosed that 12,539 teachers have so far taken the professional examination this year.
Dr. Ezahope said out of the 12,539 candidates registered for the batch A set, Benue State had the highest with 1416 candidats; Osun State, 1410 while Ebonyi State was 69 and Cross River 59.
She said the exam is done to test professional knowledge, skills and conduct which every teacher is expected to have in the teaching profession.
According to her, PQE has given teaching a professional standard, adding that, “No teacher is allowed to teach in any school without acquiring the license.
“As you know the PQE for teachers who are to be registered and licensed as professional teachers in Nigeria takes place two times every year. We have two batches, batch A in May or June while batch B is in November.
This exam has started nationwide, some states started Thursday while some Friday and today being the main day, the exams are going on in FCT.
“The exam is called Professional Qualifying Examinations integrated in the induction protocol”, she said.
The Director further noted that the majority of the graduating students now register at the point of graduation, saying “Those who are registering now are those who graduated before 2017”.
