2025 UTME: Education Minister, Dr Aluasa commends JAMB Registrar

... Plans CBT format for WAEC, NECO Exams

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has expressed immersed satisfaction over the conduct of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The Minister, particularly applauded the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is’haq Oloyede for conducting exams he described as devoid of malpractices.

Dr. Alausa gave the commendation while monitoring the 2025 UTME at the Board headquarters in Bwari Abuja on Monday.

According to the Minister, JAMB has organised the 2025 UTME with the highest level of integrity to meet international standards.

Impressed by the improvement in the conduct of the 2025 UTME, Dr. Alausa noted that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) may consider conducting their exams with Computer Based Test (CBT) by November 2025/2026 academic session.

He added that it’s the only way to totally eradicate malpractices.

“I have just gone round to monitor the 2025 UTME, I went to several CBT Centres. JAMB also took me to their digital control room to see how exams are being monitored all over the country.

“I must tell you I’m deeply impressed with the way JAMB is conducting its annual exams. It meets all international benchmarks.

“So, this is an exam that is done, monitored and coordinated with the highest level of integrity. And I am happy that we’re able to do this in Nigeria.

“We are going to get WAEC and NECO by November this year to also start the Objective exams on CBT. By 2026 exams which will come up in May, June, both the objectives and essays will be done on CBT. That is how we can eliminate malpractices

He advised the UTME candidates to go through their exams with hard work, and not to put themselves into any problem.

Speaking earlier with journalists, Prof. Oloyede, reacted to the misleading information that JAMB is sending candidates to centres out of their chosen town.

“We have thrown the challenge! Bring one person and we will give you a lot of money, because it’s unreasonable to post candidate to where he or she has not chosen”.
