Hon. Gideon Obhakhan is happily married with children. He has excelled in the corporate world, personal business, politics, and academia. His philanthropic gestures and humility speak volume of him.
Hon. Obhakhan attended Emaudo Primary School, Ekpoma, Edo State between 1977 and 1983. After two years in Emaudo Secondary School, he proceeded to Annunciation Catholic College (ACC), Irrua, where he obtained his West African African School Certificate Examination.
Hon. Gideon Obhakhan attended Federal Polytechnic, Auchi where he obtained his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering as one of the best graduating students. He later gained admission through direct entry into the department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering of the University of Benin in 1995, where he graduated with a Second Class Upper as one of the top in the class, scoring over 4 points Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
He had his Master’s Degree in Communication Engineering at the Universiry of Lagos.
He obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom.
He had a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration at the University of Benin.
*He also obtain another Master’s Degree in Political Science at the University of Benin. His special focus was on Comparative Politics and Development Studies, and proceeded to start a PhD research programme in Political Science.*
He hopes to get a degree in Law after his PhD and also qualify as a Chartered Accountant.
Hon. Gideon Obhakhan got engaged in Telecommunications Industry starting with Mobitel Limited, as a Private Telecommunication Operator (PTO), which was one of the pioneer companies within the industry providing both fixed wireless and wireline services in Nigeria before the advent of Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM).
He later joined EMIS Telecoms, another PTO to gain more knowledge and experience in another technology, in preparation for the new technology that was to change the old order to what we refer to as the GSM revolution.

This contributed significantly to improved network performance and sustenance of MTN’s market leadership position.
Creation of a completely new team of of skilled engineers and inspiring them to develop an innovative in-house service creation.
Platform that significantly reduced MTN’s spend on Value Added Services and greatly improved products time to market and subscribers life cycle management.
The development of an integrated network planning framework for network expansion which ensured that MTN was always ahead of the game in terms of its market leadership position that it has retained till date.
*POLITICAL CAREER*
Hon. Gideon Obhakhan started his political career in his early days as a student in Federal Polythenics, Auchi, Edo State. He contested and won the presidency of his Departmental Association in 1993.
He became the Political adviser to the SUG President of University of Benin in 1998 due to his activeness in politics and his political consciousness. Politics has been part of his life that he had always involved in political activities.
Hon. Gideon Obhakhan contested for the position of the Federal House of Representatives to represent Esan West/Esan Central/Igueben Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2015. Though the outcome of the election did not favour him.
In October 2015, Hon. Gideon Obhakhan was appointed Commissioner for Education by the then Governor Adams Oshiomhole. He carried out and executed effective programmes to ensure good and quality education in Edo State.
His philanthropic gestures have touched the lives of people positively. He relates freely with both the rich and the poor in the society without discrimination.
During the Covid 19 lockdown, which saw businesses crumbling and people were unable to feed, Hon. Gideon delivered relief materials including food items to all wards in Esan West Local Government, which amounted into millions of naira. And also distributed to traditional rulers, community heads, youths organizations, both the poor and the needy. *There are more to know about Hon.
