Ajax fans throw flares on the pitch after they fell 3-0 behind to rivals Feyenoord

Ajax's home Eredivisie game against defending champions Feyenoord was abandoned after ugly scenes broke out at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Sunday evening.

Disgruntled fans were seen throwing flares onto the pitch during the game, while riot police were filmed charging at supporters on horseback outside of the stadium after the fixture was terminated.

The police were also seen using tear gas to disperse people outside of the Johan Cruyff Arena after the Ajax fans resorted to vandalising their own stadium in frustration.

According to MailOnline, parts of the Johan Cruyff Arena were said to be ‘destroyed’ during the chaos on Sunday night – with video footage showing fans smashing windows and kicking through doors.

The fiercely contested derby was halted 11 minutes into the second half at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Sunday with the visitors leading the game 3-0.

Ajax, who have had a poor start to the season with just one win, sit 13th in the league table after missing out on the league title to Feyenoord last term.
