In its bid to nip in bud the feud between Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, and his deputy, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the All Progressives Congress APC, has inaugurated a Reconciliation Committee.

The Committee, which has one week to submit its recommendations, is chaired by former governor of Katsina state, Aminu Bello Masari, and the Secretary, Lawal Abbas Garba.

Spark News recalls that hostilities between the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, and his deputy increased shortly after the governor returned from medical leave abroad last month, and it has degenerated into impeachment proceedings against the deputy governor by the state House of Assembly.

Inaugurating the Reconciliation Committee on Friday in Abuja, APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, said conflicts are bound to happen in democracy, and that what’s important is our ability to resolve issues and work amicably.

“So, before us we have an issue in Ondo State, but APC as a political party and institution, we’re interested to see that we’ve a peaceful coexistence and a good working relationship between the governor of Ondo State and his deputy”.

Dr. Ganduje said in order to solve this problem, it is important to constitute a Reconciliation Committee composed of people with relevant experience of the issue before the Party in Ondo State.

He charged the Committee as the term of reference to:

Interface and engage with all contending partners with a view of gathering facts and circumstances surrounding the lingering impeachment process of the state deputy governor.

Advise the party on the most amicable way of handling the lingering issues leading to the impeachment process.

Make necessary recommendations to the party on resolution of issues and any other matters that may come up in the course of the assignment.

In his part, the chairman of the Committee, Aminu Bello Masari, promised that the committee will do the best they can in the best interest of APC to come up with recommendations that will solve the problem of Ondo state and also help the party in addressing issues of conflict between the principal and the deputy.

He, however, urged the National Chairman to call the warring parties to sheath their swords to enable the Committee do their job.
