APC spills it, says ‘No Zoning’ in Edo guber election

There's no gainsaying that the struggle of who becomes the APC candidate in the forthcoming Edo gubernatorial election has stirred up the political atmosphere of the state, setting the party's National Working Committee (NWC) on their toes.

This of course informed the Edo APC stakeholders meeting with the NWC members last night, Monday 15th January.

APC is poised to recapture Edo, but the large number of aspirants spanning across the three Senatorial zones in the state jostling for the party’s ticket is poses a great danger.

Briefing journalists on the resolutions of the NWC meeting with the stakeholders which lasted till the early hours of Tuesday, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Duro Meseko said the issue of zoning was not discussed.

When asked if there is no zoning? He responded, “No, not at all”.

According to him, “There was no such issue as zoning discussed in the NWC meeting yesterday. No such issue…I don’t think there’s anything like that”.

He said APC is determined to reclaim Edo, and in doing so the party will ensure it promotes peace and tranquility among the aspirants, assuring that the party is poised to conduct the freest and fairest primary election in the state.

Hon. Meseko, flanked by the Edo State APC Publicity Secretary, Barr. Peter Uwadie-Igbinigie and Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, read out the resolutions of the party as follows:

“1. That after due consultations with Edo State APC stakeholders, the NWC has approved DIRECT PRIMARIES as the mode of election to be used to produce the Governorship candidate of the Party for the state.

2. In view of the large numbers of aspirants jostling for the Party’s ticket in Edo State, the NWC urged the stakeholders to unite in trimming the number of aspirants.

3. The NWC urged all the Governorship aspirants to exhibit Party discipline and patriotism by shunning the attitude of running to the Courts at every opportunity instead of exploring internal dispute resolution mechanisms, especially after Party Primaries.

4. It was resolved that for the smooth running of the Party, all members should ensure strict compliance with their financial obligations to the Party, in line with the Party’s Constitution.

5. The NWC also resolved that for want of time, the E-registration exercise of the Party for fresh members be conducted after the Primaries in order not to derail the smooth conduct of the Primaries.

6. The stakeholders were urged by the NWC to promote unity within the ranks of the Party in order to go into the election as one family bound by progressive ideals and fully geared to reclaim the Party’s mandate in Edo State”.
