The Committees are: Finance Committee, Publicity Committee, Establishment Committee, Reconciliation Committee and Intergovernmental Committee. Each of the committees consisted of Chairman, Secretary and members.
Rising from the 133rd meeting of the NWC, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Barr. Felix Morka said the roles of the Committees are to help the party in thinking through and making decisions that touch on their areas.
While briefing newsmen at the Party’s Secretariat on Thursday in Abuja, Barr. Morka stated that the authority of the National Executive Committee NEC given to the NWC to make certain decisions was evoked in adopting the resolution to constitute the Standing Committees.
“As you may know, our constitution provides for the creation and establishment of several Standing Committees that are to help the party in thinking through and making decisions that touch on those areas
“You may recall at the last NEC meeting of our party, the NWC was given the authority of NEC to make certain decisions or to conclude certain processes which rightfully are within the authority of NEC. That authority was ceded to NWC to make these decisions. So today, actually we evoked the authority in adopting these resolutions for the creation of these committees that I have mentioned.
According to the National Publicity Secretary, other resolutions adopted at the NWC meeting include the decisions to mark the Party’s 10th year anniversary and the consideration of proposal for the establishment of Progressives Institute.
“The resolution to mark and celebrate the 10th year anniversary of the party’s founding with a number of activities that will take place here in Abuja, at the National Headquarters and throughout all of the states of the federation simultaneously
“We have decided that this is an important event that should be celebrated not just at the headquarters, but our party men and women across the State should also join and participate in celebrating this important event
“Also the NWC today received and considered an expert presentation of a proposal for the establishment of the Progressives Institute for the party.
“This is an institution that’s intended to be some sought of a think-tank for the party to help in formulating Progressive thoughts and ideas, and also in the other areas of policy development, training and ideological discussion to further deepen the ideas that govern our party and its values”, he said.
