ASUCA outlines critical concerns to Ministry of Livestock

The Academic Staff Union of Colleges of Agriculture (ASUCA), led by Chairman Dr. Kenneth Ikijiefor Ogbu, visited the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, Dr. Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi, to congratulate her on her recent appointment and to discuss pressing issues facing the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology in Vom, Plateau State.

During the courtesy visit, ASUCA representatives outlined several critical concerns requiring immediate attention.

Among these were the urgent need for the appointment of a Provost, the College’s ongoing exclusion from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) interventions, a call for increased budgetary allocations, the adoption of a revised scheme of service to replace the outdated 2004 version, and the imperative for improved infrastructure to foster better teaching, learning, and research conditions.

In response, Permanent Secretary Dr. Akujobi expressed her gratitude for the visit and assured the delegation that the issues raised would be duly considered.

She emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to providing support to institutions under its jurisdiction, indicating a willingness to collaborate with ASUCA to address their concerns.

As part of the visit, the ASUCA delegation presented a portrait of the Permanent Secretary as a gesture of goodwill, showcasing their appreciation and respect for her leadership.

This meeting underscores the ongoing collaboration between educational institutions and the Ministry to enhance the agricultural education sector in Nigeria.
