Breaking: Senate screens Olatunji Bello as FCCPC boss
Mr. Olatunji Bello's appearance at the Nigerian Senate can be described as one inch close to his confirmation as the new Chief Executive Officer/Executive Vice-Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
Recall that last month President Bola Tinubu approved the appointment of Bello as the new FCCPC boss, pending confirmation by the Senate.
Bello appeared before the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment for screening on Monday 8 July, 2024.
While expressing confidence in the appointee, considering his educational excellence and work experiences, the Committee chairman, Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, assured him of the Senate’s readiness to collaborate with the Commission to ameliorate the pains of the Nigerians consumers.
Senator Umar, who emphasized that the task of the Commission is huge, lamented the exploitation of consumers by the goods and services providers in Nigeria
“There is a lot of work to do in FCCPC, so much is going on out there. People are being exploited. The Senate is ready to work closely with you to ameliorate the pains of the people”.
Bello stated that his first agenda at the commission would be to focus on creation of awareness and public enlightenment, adding that most Nigerians are not aware of the FCCPC.
He noted that there is room for improvement at the commission, even as he commended the past Chief Executive Officer.
Bello who is a lawyer, administrator, and renowned journalist, was the former secretary to the Lagos State Government. He also served as Commissioner for Environment under various administrations in the State.
