Dissolution of Benue Exco: APC insists on not reverting
The dust raised by the last week dissolution of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Benue State Executive Committee by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) is yet to settle, as political actors from the state are working assiduously to get the national leadership to reverse its action.
In the light of this, the National Assembly Benue Caucus had a close door meeting with the National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and members of the NWC on Tuesday morning.
Some of The lawmakers spotted coming out of the meeting at the APC National secretariat are Senator Titus Zam, Hon. Akin Rotimi, Hon. Philip Agbese and others.
The meeting was believed to have failed to yield the desired outcome as the lawmakers declined to speak to the press.
However, there are indications that the Dr. Ganduje-led NWC is not ready to bow out on the dissolution of the Benue State Executive Committee.
One of such indications is the outcome of the NWC meeting with the Benue State Caretaker Committee on Tuesday evening.
Arising from the meeting, the party reiterated the terms of reference of the seven-man caretaker committee and the task that’s expected of it.
Briefing journalists at the party media centre, the deputy national women leader, Zainab Ibrahim said the caretaker committee’s terms of reference are very clear.
Zainab said reiterating the terms of reference of the seven-man caretaker committee was necessary because of complaints that the committee had dissolved some party executives at the local government level in the state.
According to her, “There are complaints from Benue State that the Caretaker Committee had dissolved some local government party executives. So the NWC summoned the 7-man caretaker committee and then reiterated in clear terms their terms of reference.
“Their terms of reference as stated by NWC is to administer the party in Benue State for six months, and also to conduct the primary elections for the forthcoming Local government elections.
“Also, it was part of their mandate to constitute the committees that will conduct the local government election from the local government to the ward levels.
“They have no business dissolving any committee”.
Recall that the North Central APC Forum, a few days ago rejected the dissolution of Benue State executives. The Forum chairman, Alhaji Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, said the region will not accept the decision of the party’s NWC.
