The governor made the plea in an interview with newsmen shortly after the Eid Prayer, held at the Muhammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja.
Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi on Friday urged Nigerians to pray for the President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu, and his Vice, Sen. Kashim Shettima, and for a smooth transition.
The governor made the plea in an interview with newsmen shortly after the Eid Prayer, held at the Muhammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja.
“We gathered here today to pray to God in celebration of Eid-el-fitri.
Most importantly let’s pray for our president elect, Ahmed Tinubu and his Vice, Sen Shettima and for a smooth transition.
“It’s very important that we pray for our leaders, from our President, Muhammadu Buhari, the governors, local government Chairmen and traditional rulers.
“Just like the chief Immam, Shiek Dahiru Useni, who led us in prayer, it’s all about unity and peace of Nigeria our country, so we shouldn’t relent in prayers, ” he advised.
Bello also prayed that the next transition in Kogi would be very smooth and peaceful.
“My message to my people is for them to keep maintaining peace and order for the attainment of the desired growth and development of our state,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to God for making it possible for him and all Muslim Ummah to be part of this Eid-el-fitri marking the end of Ramadan Fasting and prayers.
Bello, who said his year’s Eid Prayer at the Square was his last as governor, urged kogites to pray and support APC’s candidate, Ahmed Usman-Ododo, to succeed him to do more for the state.
“I urge you all to support Ododo, pray and vote for him during the Nov 11 governorship election to emerge victorious as governor.
“Let’s continue to be law abiding and ensure that we play by the rules of the game and indeed by God’s grace, success shall be ours, ” he urged them.
