FRSC, VIOs Partners to Improve Road Traffic Safety in Nigeria
The Conference of Directors and Chief Road Traffic Officers of the Federation, the umbrella national body of Vehicle Inspection/Road Traffic Officers of States and Federal Capital Territory led by the Chairman, Dr. Engr. (Sir) Paul Bepeh, who also serves as the Director, Cross Rivers State Road Traffic Services, and the Vice Chairman, Dr. Abdul-Lateef Bello, Director, FCT Road Traffic Services with other Exco members of the body paid a courtesy visit to the new Corps Marshal of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mallam Shehu Mohammed in Abuja to congratulate him on his recent appointment as the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission and to also exchange ideas and knowledge in road safety and road traffic matters as it affects Road Traffic Management in the States and FCT.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Amb. Fidelis Nnadi, Executive Director, Accident Prevention and Rescue Initiative (APRI), who doubles as the Consultant to the Conference of Directors and Chief Road Traffic Officers on public affairs advocacy.
According to Nnadi, the delegation reaffirmed their commitment towards enhancing road traffic safety and Motor Vehicle Administration in Nigeria.
The delegation was received by the Corps Marshal Mallam Shehu Mohammed who emphasised on the important role the two agencies have to play towards reducing road traffic crashes, prompt response to crash injured victims and ensuring safe and efficient movement of people and goods along Nigeria roads
Accordingly, the delegates advocated that the two Agencies of Federal and States/FCT governments should collectively embrace collaboration in the efforts that will encourage effective road policing and enforcement of relevant regulations that will curtail road crashes and prompt rescue of road crash victims towards making significant impacts in improving Motor Vehicle Administration ethics and standards in Nigeria.
“The delegates also applauded the efforts of the State and FCT governments that aimed at improving road traffic safety efforts and emphasised that such be sustained,” the statement concluded.
