Senate confirms new Service Chiefs

The Senate, during Thursday's plenary session confirmed the appointment of the new Service Chiefs as requested by the president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The president had in a letter, read on the floor of Senate on 11th of July, 2023, requested for the confirmation of the new Service Chiefs.

The Service Chiefs are Major General C.G Musa, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Major General T.A Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff (CAS), Real Admirer Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), and AVM H.B Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff (CAS).

Prior to their confirmation, the Senate leader, Sen. Bamidele Opeyemi Michael (Ekiti Central), urged the Senate to consider the request of president Tinubu for the confirmation of the Service Chiefs in accordance with the provisions of Section 18(1) of the Armed ForAct Cap A20 LFN 2004 (- Committee of the the Whole consideration).

The Senate resorted into the Committee of the Whole as the motion to allow strangers into the hollowed chamber was adopted. By this, the rules of the Senate were suspended

The Service Chiefs took turns to brief the Senators.

However, after a close door session, the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, announced the confirmation of the Service Chiefs.

Recall that on the 19th of June, 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed new Service Chiefs, which was announced in a statement by Mr. Willie Bassey, Director, Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
