Senate invites stakeholders to public hearing on ‘Unclaimed Dividend Funds’ 29th July 

Senate Committe on Capital Market is inviting concerned stateholders and general public to a one-day Public Hearing on "Uncleared Dividend Funds" and Investment Clinic to enable it gather input from relevant stakeholders for effective legislative intervention on related challenges.

The Committee intends to inspect the process of planned onvestors’ Clinic by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) during the hearing.

To this extent, the Commission is enjoined to have their boots within the precints of the National Assembly wherein the investors will be attended while the committee inspects.

The one-day public hearing will take place on Monday, 29th July, 2024 at the Senate Conference Hall 231, second floor, New building, National Assembly at 11am prompt.

Recall that as part of its mandate to regulate and develop the capital market, the SEC iniated the capital market investor’s clinic as events aimed at educating investors and stakeholders on specific topics. In addition to educating stakeholders, these clinics are designed to raise awareness among the investing public about the benefits of investing in the capital market.

“Investors clinics serve to address various issues, including those related to unclaimed dividends and dematerialization. Self-regulatory such as the exchanges are expected to have booths at these clinics to address investor concern regarding paper certificates, e-dividends, dematerialization, direct cash settlement and more. Investor clinics serves as platforms for addressing market-related issues and act as temporary capital market hubs to resolve investors concerns within a specified timeframe.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other stakeholders in the capital market organize investor clinics to educate investors about the benefits of e-dividend registration, dematerialization of share certificates, and the direct cash settlement system, among other financial instruments.
