Six children rescues as boat capsized in Greek coast

Report reaching us says the boat conveying immigrants to Europe, has capsized down Greek Island of Samos.

Eight people including six children, have so far been rescued by coastguard.

Over 40 people were rescued by authorities during an operation in the Aegean Sea involving aircraft and vessels.

It was reported that
efforts by the authorities to rescue more was truncated by strong winds.

It was noted that a non-governmental organisation informed the authorities about the situations.

The Greece’s migration Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos, condemned the incident.

“The incident filled us with sadness and anger”, while also pledging to crack down on people-smugglers.

Samos is just off the Turkish coast and has long been a regular destination for migrants trying to reach European soil.

More than 50,000 migrants have arrived in Greece by boat so far this year, making it the second most used European migrant route.

Based on the report from the United Nations refugee agency, (UNHCR), over 160,000 migrants have arrived in Europe by sea this year, about 23 percent of arrivals were children while 2,000 people confirmed dead or missing.
